I Don’t Want to Be a Memory

“I wanna live life fast, I don’t know how to slow down, I wanna get high, I don’t know how to come down, Help me now, I’m runnin’ on empty, And I don’t wanna be a memory”

Kane Brown’s newest duet is with pop producer/songwriter Blackbear. The sauntering mid-tempo track features Brown first speaking and then singing about living life at top speed, trying to escape from any pain, concerned that he’s running on empty and proclaiming “I don’t want to be a memory,” before Blackbear takes over similarly expressing the need to find a way to manage the crazy train of life.

See if these lyrics from the opening chorus resonate with you:

I wanna live life fast, I don’t know how to slow down
I wanna get high, I don’t know how to come down
Help me now, I’m runnin’ on empty
And I don’t wanna be a memory

In the first verse Kane Brown sings:

Am I the only one that’s comin’ unglued?
Emotions building up, they start to run you
The bottles on the shelf I’m ’bout to run through
Doin’ everything I wish that I can undo, ayy
I’m by myself
And why won’t no one help?
I know this can’t be healthy
So I’m lookin’ for a way out (For a way out)

You have sown much, and harvested little. You eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm. And he who earns wages does so to put them into a bag with holes.

Matthew 6:29
Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
